Ursula Maria Wartmann - visiting writer.
We’re very honoured to host Dortmund writer Ursula Maria Wartmann for the second week of the festival. Ursula describes herself thus:
Ursula Maria Wartmann is a wanderer between the worlds of short story and novel, reportage and poem. She studied Sociology at the venerable University of Marburg, voluteered for a newspaper near Frankfurt and worked for twenty years as a journalist in Hamburg. She has lived in dortmund for eleven years - older, a bit wiser, and young at heart.
Ursula, who was recommended to Leeds/Dortmund 50 by Ralf Thenior of the original Writers in Transit project in 2017, will be roaming Leeds with a notebook, reading on Love The Words (More) with the poet John Hegley at Chapel FM, leading two workshops with students at Leeds Beckett and The University of Leeds, and being a panellist on Your Backyard, a discussion between crime fiction writers at The Leeds Library on Sat 12th Oct (2pm) on the role of ‘Neighbourhood’ in the genre.
Ursula’s residency is being made possible by a grant from DAAD.
